Chinese-made drywall used in new-home construction throughout Florida may emit noxious odors and sulfur-based gases capable of corroding air-conditioner coils, computer wiring and metal picture frames, according to a recent article in the Wall Street journal. The drywall, plasterboard or wallboard from China, used to construct the interior walls in homes, has not been shown to pose any immediate health threats, according to the article, but has raised concerns in homeowners regarding the quality of construction and the declining value of their homes.

Much of the Chinese drywall was used in home construction in South and West Florida, and was used by some of the country’s largest home builders, including Lennar Corporation. Lennar has been forced to relocate some homeowners while they remove the tainted Chinese drywall and replace it with a better product.

The odor-emitting drywall is the latest in a long line of dangerous and tainted products coming out China. Greenberg & Stone, P.A., has a long history of handling cases involving tainted and defective products, including some of the highly-publicized Chinese tire cases in the 1990s. Today, it seems like every week a story emerges about safety problems involving tainted baby formula, contaminated fish, lead-based paint in children’s toys and even unsafe pet food, all coming from China.

Greenberg & Stone, P.A., knows how these cases must be handled, moving quickly to determine where the product was manufactured, where it was shipped to, and how it was distributed. The manufacturer, distributor and retailer all may have some form of liability when a defective product causes injury. Working with experts in testing the product and preserving it for evidence at trial also require urgent action and a working knowledge of the issues at play in these types of cases.

Whether you have been exposed to and inconvenienced by the foul smelling Chinese drywall, or consumed illness-inducing food from China, you may be entitled to recover damages. If you or a family member has been injured by a defective, dangerous or tainted Chinese product, contact the attorneys of Greenberg & Stone, P.A. , immediately to schedule a free consultation.
