Safety While Driving

Stay Safe While Driving on South Florida Roads Prevention Is Better Than Cure

"If only…"

We cannot count the number of times a car accident victim has spoken that phrase in our offices. Greenberg, Stone & Urbano, is a South Florida personal injury law firm whose lawyers have extensive experience representing car accident survivors in legal claims against insurance companies and at-fault drivers.

Based on our clients' experiences, we offer some essential safe driving tips. These tips are not intended to replace the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle's information on safe driving.

Avoid Distracted Driving Accidents

Research shows that a person sending a text while driving is as likely to cause an accident as a person with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent. If you have a headset, use it to talk on the phone while driving. Better yet, avoid cell phone use or any other distracting activity while driving.

Take Care of Your Vehicle

Prevent accidents caused by deflated or worn tires, worn-out brakes, broken turn signals, broken windshield wipers or other vehicle maintenance issues. Keep your side and rear-view mirrors properly adjusted.

Be Careful in an Emergency

Carry emergency equipment like flares to maintain safety if your car breaks down. In the event of a breakdown, raise your hood and your trunk to signal to other drivers. Seek out the safest place to be: is it in your car, off the shoulder of the road, or elsewhere? Do not stand by the side of your car near the flow of traffic.

Make Sure Infant and Child Car Seats Are Properly Installed

Find out if the retail store offers certified installation of your infant car seat. If not, some local fire departments offer certified safety installations.
